When your Solar Pv system generates energy throughout the day any excess energy will be stored in your batteries.
This excess energy can then be used during the evening or on cloudier days.
By installing battery storage homeowners can reduce their reliance on the grid and even save money on increasing energy bills.
If a solar pv system produces more power than a home requires the surplus energy will charge the battery rather than being sent back to the grid
Generating energy solar panels are a renewable energy source made up of individual cells which absorb the suns photons.

If the panels generate enough power to fulfil the house the excess electricity will flow through the system and charge the batteries.
Once the battery is up to full capacity any further excess power will be sent back to the national grid.
If your solar panels are not generating enough power, for example at night or on cloudier days the excess energy in the batteries will provide power to your home.

Reduced reliance on the grid – you use power you have generated rather than relying on energy form the grid.
Time of use savings – stored excess energy can be used to power your home during peak times when electricity is more expensive.
This link provides information about the SEG process:

All generators who wish to receive payment for the electricity which they export back to the National Grid will need to apply to a SEG licensee (an electricity supplier which offers a SEG tariff). SEG licensees must offer a SEG tariff to all eligible generators.
Each SEG licensee will have details of their specific application process on their website. Details of SEG payments (including amount due and contract length) will be determined by your chosen SEG licensee. Any SEG tariff offered must always remain above zero. Generators are also entitled to payments based upon actual meter readings, even if some suppliers offer deals with alternative payment models.
You can apply for a SEG tariff with any SEG licensee – your SEG licensee does not need to be the same company as your current energy supplier. You can choose to use separate companies for your SEG payments, electricity supply, and your gas supply if you wish.
This is emailed directly to you from MCS when we have completed the certificate. It is always worth checking all of your email folders. This certificate also contains your unique MCS reference number which begins MCS-0 (this is found at the top of your certificate). We do hold a copy of this certificate within our customer record if required.
We are required to submit notifications and/or commissioning documents within 28 days of installation, however, we send ours as soon as the paperwork is received from the engineer. The DNOs will then process this and provide a confirmation letter via email which contains the DNO reference number (at the top) required for SEG. The timeframe for providing this letter varies between DNOs and we have no control over this element of the process. The confirmation letter is sometimes referred to as a DNO certificate.
As applying for SEG involves selecting tariffs, this is completed by you as the customer.
